Transition Trainer

What is a Transition Trainer?
A transition trainer trains and fosters the dog once they leave Logan Correctional Facility. At this point, the dog knows the majority of their needed skills. The trainer works with the dog and their future recipient to help them get comfortable working together. Every Tuesday, the trainer takes the dog to PGI class to meet with their recipient and receive hours. Once the recipient has enough hours, the dog will visit their home for 2-7 days. Once the dog comes back to the trainer, the trainer will work on anything the recipient needs or thinks is missing. This cycle happens 2-3 times before the dog leaves to stay with their recipient for good. At that point, there is a graduation that includes the dog, recipient, and all of the dog's trainers that marks the beginning of the new team's journey together!

What is a facility dog?
A facility dog goes to their handler's place of work. Many of our facility dogs go to hospitals, schools, and court houses! They provide comfort and support to those in these facilities. Our transitions trainers work on providing and building upon essential skills that help our dogs succeed!
