OUR Mission

The purpose of Indy-Pendence Service Dog Organization is to educate the student body and community on the training, use, and rights of service dogs. There are also opportunities for members to train and work with the service dogs from initial training to their placement with an individual with a disability.
ISU students participate as student trainers or foster homes for service dogs. Each student trainer is assigned a dog or dogs to work with. During the time with the dog, the trainer goes through a normal routine of attending classes and running errands, while also teaching skills to the dog. The trainer is responsible for the dog for the duration of the dog’s visit on campus.

General Member
General Members are all ISU students who attend meetings and events. Meetings are held weekly for one hour and give members the opportunity to learn about the service dog training process and a hands-on experience. Members can attend fundraisers and help spread information about Indy.
There are also opportunities for general members to apply to become a student trainer. Applications typically open once per year and/or semester.
There are also opportunities for general members to apply to become a committee member. Members can join one of the three committees. Fundraising, Outreach, or Social Media.
